Rembrandt Van Rijn

Rembrandt van Rijn lived from 1606 to 1669. He was born in Leiden as the son of a miller. In 1630, Rembrandt decided to settle permanently in Amsterdam.

He made big name there, which enabled him to buy a large house on Breestraat called the 'Rembrandthuis', now Museum Rembrandthuis. He made more than 100 self-portraits but became famous for the Night Watch, one of the largest paintings at the time.Rembrandt was also a collector, he bought many exotic things, brought by merchants to Amsterdam. His expensive hobby of collecting and the loan on his large house became problematic at a certain time in his life. So his wealthy life came to an end when he went bankrupt and had to move to a small studio on the outskirts of the city.

But Rembrandt didn’t give up…
